The Wrong Side of the Road
Alice was in love. Although, Alice was sick of being in love.
Always falling for the wrong men, the ones who knew she would let them walk over her, the ones who openly took that opportunity, and the ones that strung her along.
“I’m leaving.” Alice had laughed, standing up.
Tom had just raised his eyebrows, a half-smirk on his face.
“Don’t be stupid, Alice.” He replied, standing up and moving to place his hands on her elbows.
He pulled her in softly, and for a moment he thought Alice was going to give in- why wouldn’t she? She always did.
Alice’s bottom lip twitched for a second as Tom’s face moved closer to her own, when all of a sudden she spun away and laughed again.
Tom laughed too, although he wasn’t quite sure why.
“What’s so funny?” he asked.
She turned around again, a strange smile on her face as her hands moved to her hips. Tom loved those hips.
“You don’t even realise that I’m not coming back.” She replied, her turn to raise her eyebrows now.
Tom frowned and shook his head, “Come on baby, don’t be stupid.”
“I’d only be stupid to stay with you, Tom.”
And with that she strode out the door, a strange laughter ringing from her lips.

“Just don’t think about him.” Levi whispered, as he massaged Alice’s shoulders. Alice always had knots around her neck- it was the only part of her body that never loosened up.
“Mmm, I know,” she replied, gazing out the window.
Levi had been surprised when Alice turned up.
Levi had known Alice for a long time, and he’d spent a long time lusting after her. But that was all it would likely ever be for him; lust for a body so toned, lust for a woman so confident- that is, until she ever fell in love.
The second she was in love, she’d bow her head and look up through her lashes, giggle and speak softly. But when she was on the prowl- well, he’d seen that many times.
Long legs in heels, clothes that hugged her figure and showed off the small of her back, her head held high and a smouldering look in her eye.
So it worked out well when Alice turned up on his doorstep.
“I’m tired of being in love,” she’d said, strolling in and throwing a bag down on his couch. Not a handbag, mind you.
“Okay…” He’d started, hoping he knew where this was headed, but slightly unsure.
She collapsed onto his couch and kicked off her heels- he presumed she was wearing stockings with lace tops for a reason.
“I don’t want to be in love with Tom anymore.”
She looked up earnestly at Levi, who was standing in front of her with his hands on the back of his head.
“I'm just done, you know? I love him, but he hurts me. And he does it over and over- so I don’t want it anymore.”
Levi nodded and picked up the bourbon and coke that he’d had sitting on the coffee table, and as he sat down next to Alice she grabbed it out of his hand and threw it back herself.
“Well…” he began, putting the empty glass back on the table, “What do you want?”
Alice looked at him and laughed. It was the nervous laugh she did whenever she was a little scared. He’d known her long enough to recognise that.
“I want what you’ve always wanted.” She said as a smile took over her face, playing with the ring on her right hand before looking up mischievously.
Levi laughed and looked at the ceiling, “Oh man, really?” he asked biting his lower lip.
Alice nodded.
“I just want someone to make out with, someone to sleep with, someone to shower with, and not have to worry about any labels.”
Levi nodded, followed quickly by a laugh and a shake of his head.
“Alice, I’m an asshole. I’m exactly what you’re trying to get away from.”
“I know,” she answered, maybe a little too quickly for Levi’s liking. He didn’t realise Alice thought he was that bad. “But I also know I’ll never love you. And you’re exactly what I need right now.”
That was a few weeks ago now. Levi kissed Alice’s neck gently and she murmured softly in reply.
“What happens if you meet someone, and I’m in the way?” Alice asked quietly, leaning back between Levi’s legs so her head rested on his chest.
Levi interlocked his fingers into hers.
“Nah, I won’t meet anyone.”
“You don’t know that,” she replied, yawning.
“Yeah, I do.” He answered. “I’m not looking.”
Always falling for the wrong men, the ones who knew she would let them walk over her, the ones who openly took that opportunity, and the ones that strung her along.

Thanks for writing this love story for this weeks Theme Thursday. Love is the greatest foundation of all.
God bless.
“But I also know I’ll never love you. And you’re exactly what I need right now.” (???)
What a couple!
Anyway, love is the best foundation, especially when it is requited, of course.
