Joe tried not to let his eyes track from the ball back to Nina.

It wasn’t a particularly sunny day- very muggy and warm, but not looking like the sweltering summer’s day it should. Whenever they were all drunk, Nina begged to go to the beach. No matter what time of the day or night it was. One night she’d even been convinced that she was sober enough to drive them all there- she wasn’t.

It turned out Nina liked to think of the seawater as a hangover cure as well.
They’d all moved too slowly that morning to catch the sun, so there they were, under the clouds.

When they’d arrived, the three of them had walked to the water’s edge to try and make their way out to swim. Of course, it was at that moment that a cool breeze chose to whip up and Matt and Joe hastily backed out. Their beaches were cold at the best of times.
So now Joe and Matt just passed a rugby ball back and forth while Nina stripped down and rubbed sunscreen into her toned body.
Not that Joe noticed, of course.

When every inch of curves had been sufficiently covered- she’d told Matt that she always at least wore sunscreen on her dĂ©colletage, even if it was a rainy day- She made her way back to the water.

Matt laughed as Nina’s squeal and sharp intake of breath reached his ears. Joe let a small smile show on his face then tried to shift his focus to something else.

“You gonna watch West Ham play Milwall this Saturday?”

Matt shrugged, “Yeah, I would, but they don’t play championship on Sky and those freeview sites suck,”

Joe saw Nina duck under the water out of the corner of his eye.

“It’ll be good once they’re back in the EPL again,” Matt continued, throwing a spiral pass that Joe nearly missed.

“Mmm.” Was all that came out of Joe’s mouth.

-------------------------

Joe was just glad she’d put her dress back on before she sat in the front seat. Even now her bikini was mostly visible, peeking over the top of the very low-cut front.
It wasn’t that she made him uncomfortable- it was that the effect she had on him made him, well… Feel a certain discomfort when he couldn’t act on his unspoken desires.

“How have your shins been? Are you going to play cricket this weekend?”

Nina’s tone of voice certainly seemed comfortable with him. He knew she thought of him as just a friend, and he would never do anything to cross that line. Matt was one of his best mates, why would he give that up for- what would he even give that up for?

Nina absent-mindedly rubbed the skin just beneath her collarbone.
Bullshit he didn’t know what he’d give that up for.

“Nah, I could hardly walk a couple of days ago. Might have to give it a bit.” He glanced at her legs as he shifted gear.

They talked about music and sport for the rest of the short ride to her place.
She talked a lot, but he didn’t mind. It was better than awkward silences or letting his mind wander.

“Thanks, Joe. Seeya Saturday!” she slammed the car door so hard it almost hurt his ears, and he gave her a wave as she walked up the steps to her house.

Her dress was way too short.

Make that an extraordinary discomfort.

HAHAHAHAHA! Yeah, that's how you nail a Muse.

This line: "Not that Joe noticed, of course." Though the intent is obvious, the line doesn't read properly... "Not that Joe DIDN'T notice, of course."

I dunno... but it needs fixing.

Typo here: Matt shrugged, “Yeah, I would, but they don’t play championship on Sky and those freeview sites suck,”

nice progression here, and good use of the muse. Hell, i was feeling a bit uncomfortable myself. Ha! It occurs to me suddenly that i don't actually know what a rugby ball looks like!
