Coping Mechanism

When my parents helped me move down (Thanks, team) to Dunedin a week or so ago, my Dad was determined to see Cargill's Castle. He's kind of like me, in that he can become pretty fixated on something if he likes it (In my case, see; Wizard of Oz, Bellydance, Graffiti, UrbEx). He said he'd last seen the castle when he was 10 or so. It is essentially a ruins now, and the farmer that used to own it (Not sure how he inherited it) had begun to knock down the ballroom when a group bought it off him to form a trust. Construction of the Castle had begun in 1876, and apparently it had several fires over the years and was no longer safe, one night part of a wall just collapsed.
Over the years it was used a bar and cabaret, an Evangelical Christian centre and an art gallery- all of which failed.
It is still not open to the public because it is structurally unsafe, and the trust only recently paid off the loan they got to even buy the Castle. There's no way to get in without entering private property.

Heh.

A very awesome place, unfortunately you're in full view of the farmer's place when you're right in front of the Castle. Which you only realise when you're taking photos and your mother starts frantically signalling to you before sprinting off and you have to leap a fence with her.
