Buttercups and blueberries

They fitted together perfectly.
He managed to make her beam without even trying.
He often teased her for her inability to do anything but smile around him, and of course this only made her beam more.
They made each other laugh and smile constantly.

But, just as some relationships seem to fall together as a result of everything just happening to occur at the right time, they were victims of bad timing.

The young, innocent eleven year olds who had shyly confessed their feelings had never come so far as actually going on a date.

Technology provided a platform for their communications that would have otherwise been non-existent thanks to their utter fear out of adoration for each other.

But a year or so passed, and when he returned, she let her fear swallow her up once again, and he returned home slightly disheartened.

But she apologised, and he could never have blamed her anyway, and their emails and calls continued.

By now, circumstances had changed, and being well and truly into their teenage years, they didn't expect to think solely of each other.

And when he finally came back, they were still the timid sweethearts they had always been, albeit a few years older, and only a moment of pure courage on their part had led to their rendez-vous finally.

Twenty minutes and two fleeting embraces later, she was gone, and by the time the morning came, he was well on his was to being 7000 miles apart from her again.

But no matter how brief their meetings were, something impacted them, as it was clear when through the receiver she heard, "If you were here, I would make you mine."

And all they could do was wait until Lady Luck favoured them and everything occured at the right time.
