Only By The Night

He never directly said anything.

In fact, everything was unspoken on the subject.

It was as though they had some sort of list of unwritten rules for whatever it was they were doing, Fight Club style;
The first rule of Fight Club is, you do not talk about Fight Club. The second rule of Fight Club is, you DO NOT talk about Fight Club.

They only spoke of it in darkness.
In daylight, they were nothing.
They were just two people among other friends.
They were not even two people, they were all part of a larger group of people.

But in darkness, they met.

In darkness, they knew each other.

In darkness, their scents mingled, they whispered sweet nothings (and they really were nothings), they embraced, they spoke as though they'd known each forever.

And then, once again, in the daylight, they were nothing.

In daylight, nothing had ever begun between them, nothing was in the process of beginning, nothing was ever going to begin.

So discrete were they, that even they were unaware of what was going on.

A sentiment shared by everyone who's ever felt they were in love. Nicely captured.

Siobhan,

Thanks for dropping by my blog, first off.

Secondly, this was REALLY good. REALLY good. I want to know more about these two. I am totally convinced they are real. Come on, Jeff is right. Write something for 10th Daughter.

Take these two somewhere if you like and use them. Do something different if you like. Your writing is good enough to join us; have no doubt of it! :)

xxAmy
