But I knew I was out of luck the day the music died
It's funny, I go through spates of blogging inspiration, then something snaps and it's gone.
I do think that perhaps the latter has just occured again. But I'm sure it'll come back soon.
I suppose I should blog about my race on Sunday, eh?
Well, it was my first race in a very long time, and I loved it.
I have never been so cold in my life though, haha.
I couldn't move my fingers after the first five minutes!
Anyway, as I'm too lazy to write en ce moment, here's what was said;
Competitors will run up and over rugged hills, through the surrounding pine tree plantations and into muddy marshes and tackle over 30 manmade and natural obstacles. Obstacles include a mud slide, a hay bale pyramid, a crawl under a sea of barbed wire, wobbly bridges, horse jumps, a spider web, water jumps, balance boards, mud runs, floating platforms, tyre runs, crawling under trees and more.
The biggest section is the women’s 5 km under 45 with over 130 entrants
That was my section, as I didn't want to risk my shin splints in the 10km- and I was damn glad I didn't when after the first crawl under the sea of barbed wire, the first thing that flashed across my mind was 'Bloody hell, I could get hypothermic during this!'
Honestly, the mud was so cold it took my breath away. I wasn't gasping for breath because I wasn't fit enough, I just couldn't breathe through that freezing mud!
I'd actually completely forgotten about the spider web until I read that!
There were trenches that were waist deep, filled with muddy, freezing water.
I'd just recovered from the crawl under the sea of barbed wire when I was forced to wade through that! They were very narrow, so it wasn't like you could overtake in them. By the end of the first one it felt as though my legs were having pins stabbed into them repeatedly. And there were TWO more in the race! I remember on the first one, all the men around me scrambling to get on the bank, and thinking 'Screw this, I need to get in front,' and diving for the bank and pulling myself up.
Oh, actually, that's a point!
Maybe halfway through I realised that I hadn't seen any women for ages. It didn't actually click that I was doing quite well, I just assumed that not many women had entered, haha! Apparently it was a 50/50 split of men and women in the race, which is quite dandy really.
Most of the time during the race you were running in mud or ankle deep water- the ankle deep water was actually easier to run in!
Haha in the last stretch there was a long bit that looked like it was mud on the left then more ankle deep water on the right. However, one step too far to the right-
BAM I was under freezing water and gasping for air again!
I was quite glad to see some men in front of me do the same though, haha!
Hmmm, anything else?
Oh! When I crossed the finished line, received a well deserved Speight's Traverse beer.
Haha, didn't drink it though, I know far too much about exercise to make that mistake. So it's perched up next to Maxim Reality's drink bottle, and my signed ticket from Heath Franklin's Chopper Read.
Hmmmm, hmmmmm, hmmmmmmmmm.
I feel as though I was going to say something else.
Oh! That's right! My placing!
Well, the results aren't up on the website yet, but they read out 1st and 2nd place in my section (Women under 45), and I was only 41 seconds behind 2nd place with a time of 33:41. Not too shabby! However they didn't read out the time for 3rd place (Sounds shifty to me..) so I don't know how far I was behind them, not too far though clearly!
Damn glad I did it.
It's awesome to be back into it.

What watermark?.....

This is my "Who the *@$% organises a race like this in the middle of *@$%ing winter?" face.

The guy next to me had heard me freezing to death in the crawl and asked if I was alright

Oh! And there were fancy dress prizes! So much respect for the guy who dressed up as an insurance salesman, complete with briefcase!

And taking a soccer ball would have been a bit of a mission for this football player!
There was also a bridal party (there was a teams section) with two brides and two grooms, completely decked out in bridal dresses and suits- however, they consisted of three men and only one woman. Very humourous!
I would have liked to put my finish photo up, as it is absolutely HILARIOUS, but it does have rather a large watermark right across my face.

In the finishing chute, feeling a tad cold.

And believe it or not, actually looking a lot cleaner after the race than I did during the race!
I do think that perhaps the latter has just occured again. But I'm sure it'll come back soon.
