"Everything is better at night," she murmured.
Perched on the plank of wood, they stared up into the sky.
The clouds marred her view of the stars, and only recogniseable up above was the Southern Cross, though she knew she'd seen Orion not long before.
"What do you think about?" he asked, a rather peculiar question it seemed.
"I mean, when you're alone?"
Her brow furrowed, and she considered the possibility that she'd seen Orion whilst facing the other direction. ("Constellations don't mean much to me," he'd once told her.)
"When I'm alone.. People I suppose. People and relationships."
He seemed to accept this answer and they sat in silence once more, still never unfixing their gaze from the stars above.
She pursed her lips as though she wished to say something, then stopped herself.
She tried again, and again, and eventually forced the words out.
"I think I want to be loved too much."
He laughed softly and said, "I think so too. But you know what? So do I."
